Projects 2019
Our new sushi fabric collection from Northcott Fabrics. We used their free online pattern to make a double-sided apron with the four different prints we carry. This fabric would also be great for placemats! What would you make with it?
Corvette Quilt (Queen Sized)
JoAnne just finished this quilt for her father. She used coordinating corvette prints from different manufacturers. Batting is 80/20 cotton/polyester. Quilt is backed with marblelized black flannel and measures 92" x 108". She's been collecting this fabric for years but it only took her about 3 days to complete. Comes with a personalized, heart-felt quilt label.
Stonehenge Solstice Button Down Shirt
For those of you who haven't been in the store or seen this on Northcott's Stonehenge Fabric Instagram, Shaun made this beautiful button down shirt with the Stonehenge Solstice collection. He used the fabric panel for the back of it and carefully lined up the stripes on the cuffs and collar. The gold buttons are the perfect touch to accent the fabric! Great job, Shaun! We always love your creations.
Project Dovetail Baby Blanket
Lisa made this 35” square baby blanket using the Project Dovetail collection from Michael Miller Fabrics. The pattern is just one block repeated and turned different directions. The back is an all over cotton gray butterfly print. For the binding, we used left over scraps from the charm pack.
We cut our own 5” x 5” charm packs of the collection with our Accuquilt. Other charm packs bundles are for sale! Each includes 48 squares that makes putting a quilt together a breeze! Streamline your creative process with precuts. Looking for a little more fabric than 5” squares? We also have jelly rolls and fat quarter bundles of this collection available in our store.
Mel's Diner Tote Bag
JoAnne made this bag for her grandmother who graduated in the 50's. She’s part of the reunion committee for her graduating class. They make sure to have a reunion yearly. Now she has something to carry around her reunion planning paperwork in!
This is the tote that we use as a first project for our sewing class. It’s size is good for carrying projects in but can also hold paperwork without being too big/bulky.The white trim is actually elastic that was carefully sewed flat. The inside features a double pocket on one side and a zipper pocket on the other.
Measuring Tape Lanyards
We whipped up some quick lanyards the other day. Our current ones looked a little worn out so we wanted to make something new! After exploring our large ribbon selection, we decided on using measuring tape ribbon. Functional and cute?! Can’t beat that! Now we’ll never need to worry about not having a tape measure on us!
The yellow measuring tape has 3/4 inch black hem tape on the back and the beige one has 7/8 inch blue grosgrain ribbon on the back. We used approximately a yard of each ribbon per lanyard.
Scrappy Fabric Bowl
SCRAP BUSTER! Not sure what to do with leftover scraps from your last project? Make a scrappy bowl! We used 1/4" cotton cording to make this bowl from scraps left over after cutting jelly rolls out of our new Urban Grunge collection. Ten yards of cording made this. We have them prepackaged in store along with coordinating fabric scraps. The best part? This was all less than $3! This is going to be our new go-to scrap busting project!
Blue Angels Tote Bag
JoAnne made this tote bad for her friend's mother, Sandy. Sandy came in the store and saw this fabric and fell in love with it. Pattern is an original. It is essentially the same pattern we used as the first project for our Sewing 101 class. The only difference is that the second side pocket was substituted for a zipper pocket because who can't use one of those? It came together pretty quickly and is a great way to mix patterns for a personalized style. Made with Pellon 987F Fusible Fleece for bag body and Pellon 809 Decorbond for the inside pockets.
Large Dog Bed
Buddy is enjoying his new bed! The cover was made with AGF Studio's Happy Home canvas and a solid gray cotton canvas for the bottom. It has simple boxed corners and a Velcro closure on one end so it may easily be removed and washed. Cotton canvas is a great option for upholstery, backpacks, tote bags, and much more. It's a nice medium weight, has a soft feel, and it's washable. We also really love this print and think Buddy likes it too.
